Where can you travel to from Cambodia during Covid-19?
Quarantine upon return to Cambodiahas has been reduced to three days for those of us gainfully employed. Most of us have the all important little blue cards. S0 clearly it is time to feed the travel bug and sally forth.
Right?
Well, let’s take stock and look at the options as to where one can travel to from Cambodia in what we are dying to believe are the dog days of travel restrictions.

Cambodia has indeed vaccinated at breakneck speed. And while our sea of little blue cards is great news for the health of the country, they are not yet a “travel passport” in practice.
The good news though is that countries are slowly starting to open up and while options are slim, they do now at least exist.
Where can you travel to from Cambodia during Covid-19?
So, where can you travel to right now from here? Sadly Asian, or nearby options, are still very limited. Much of Africa, Europe and the Americas have opened though. Here’s our top tips, providing you have the budget.
Asian Countries Open to Travel
Thailand
Open since November 1st, Cambodia did in fact make the hallowed list of accepted trip origins. Actual requirements are proof of vaccine (which includes Sinovac) one night booked in a designated hotel and a negative PCR on arrival. After that? Do as you will.
How to get to Thailand?
As of right now there are no direct flight. The easiest route is via Singapore. We are told though that direct flights are “imminent” and that people returning from Thailand may not have to quarantine at all.

India
India recently announced that it was opening up fully to vaccinated travelers, which again includes recognition of Sinovac as an approved vaccine option.
Again, there are no direct flights but they are apparently in the pipeline. India can be reached relatively easy via Singapore or Incheon.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka was one of the first countries in the region to reopen to tourism. That said the process has been choppy. As things currently stand, you need proof of vacination and a negative PCR taken within 72 hours of your arrival into the country.
Getting to Sri Lanka from Cambodia
No direct flights, nor have there traditionally been any. Getting to Sri Lanka will involve flying via Singapore and currently would set you back about $400 each way.
Nepal
Another early opener, Nepal currently requires a negative PCR taken within 48 hours of entry into the country and proof of vaccination. The tourist industry here is starting to get back to normal as Himalayan trekking among other draws to the country resume.
How to get to Nepal from Cambodia?
You’ll have to fly via Singapore. Return air fare will run you about $1000 each.
Palau
The first Pacific country to open to tourism has traditionally been a mecca level destination due to its easy island hopping, fantastic diving and great beaches. Even at the best of times though this is not an easy place to get to or cheap. If you are light on budget? Stop reading now and move along. Off you go. Nothing for you here.
For those still reading? How do I get there from Cambodia?
With bloody great difficulty, that’s how. Flights previously went via Manila, but currently going to Palau from Cambodia mean transiting via America. That’s right. Across the Pacific and back again and then the same on your way home.
It’s almost like they don’t want us there. (They don’t.)
Traveling to Europe from Cambodia
Europe has by and large completely reopened to tourism. Each state though has different criteria for going. The biggest problem in traveling to Europe from Cambodia is which vaccine you have been given. Many countries do not accept Sinovac, the notable exceptions being Serbia and Cyprus. Serbia can be reached via Singapore and Istanbul, with the country also offering other vaccines to those staying in the country. “Vaccine tourism” at its finest!.
Traveling to Africa from Cambodia during Covid-19
Whilst many countries of Africa remain closed to tourism, others such as South Sudan, Egypt and much of the north remained open throughout the pandemic. This provides numerous options for those wishing to take the risk. The main issue here though is which countries you transit through and indeed which will accept your vaccine.

Countries that are currently closed to tourism
Many countries in Asia are either completely closed to tourism, partly open, or have strict requirements, sadly this means they are essentially off the travel list.
Traveling to Singapore from Cambodia
Singapore have launched a limited program of allowing vaccinated travelers from seven countries Cambodia is not one of them. You can though thankfully transit through the city state on to other destinations.
Traveling to China from Cambodia
China is not even letting their own citizens in (or out) for the most part, so do not expect a jaunt to the Middle Kingdom any time soon. As previously announced by Khmer Nights they are also not letting people in to attend the Winter Olympics.
Probably for the best given what the Canadian Olympic hockey team is waiting to do to the Chinese national side. You think the century of humiliation at the hands of the western colonial occupying powers was bad? Wait till you see what sixty minutes of still pissed Canadians do to the Sino national psyche. PS…there is no “polite” in hockey.
So a best case target for a visit? Mid 2022. Maybe. If they’ve gotten over the hockey thing by then.
Traveling to the Philippines from Cambodia
Traveling to the Philippines from Cambodia is currently restricted to returning nationals, residents, spouses, as well as children, or parents of nationals. Even if you fit into this criteria, the visa process is far from simple.
Traveling to Bali from Cambodia
Bali recently announced a reopening to tourism but the small print reveals you still have to do 7 days in quarantine. OK if you want to move to the island, but not so much if you are looking for a quick holiday.

In summary these are your current “holiday” options should you not mind expensive PCR tests and indeed are willing to quarantine on either end of your jaunt. Things are getting better, but we are merely at the end of travel being decidedly a “brown trouser” job for the most part. It will be some time before we can globe trot in an inexpensive manor with anything resembling ease.
