U.S. Embassy Kicks Off AmCam 2022
(PHNOM PENH, Jan. 27, 2022) – The United States Embassy in Phnom Penh kicked off 2022 with a high-energy event celebrating longstanding and fruitful relations with ASEAN and Cambodia.
Guests at the launch event played traditional carnival games and enjoyed classic American and Khmer dishes. Cambodian singer Kesorrr, featuring Peace Chong and D-Man, headlined a star-studded concert.
“Throughout 2022, as Cambodia chairs ASEAN, we celebrate the enduring ties between the United States and the peoples of Southeast Asia,” said Ambassador W. Patrick Murphy.
For its “America-Cambodia 2022” (#AmCam2022) year, the U.S. Embassy is focusing on four themes:
- AmCam CARES: U.S. investment in health, well-being, and economic prosperity of Cambodians and people throughout ASEAN.
- AmCam ASPIRES: U.S. support for the aspirations of people across Southeast Asia for a more prosperous, democratic future.
- AmCam LEADS: U.S. leadership and partnerships in recovering from the global pandemic and responding to climate change.
- AmCam CHAMPIONS: U.S. engagement with the next generation of Southeast Asian leaders.
Formal U.S.-ASEAN relations date back 45 years and are stronger than ever. The United States remains deeply invested in partnerships in Southeast Asia.
“We are closely partnered in this region and we will increase our engagement in 2022,” Ambassador Murphy said.
The United States is working together with Cambodia as the ASEAN Chair in 2022 on shared priorities, including speeding the region’s economic recovery from the pandemic, addressing Mekong environmental challenges, tackling the climate crisis, and developing human capital.
