While not having much of a noteworthy influence on the history and culture of Cambodia, Takeo is the home of many famous Cambodians.

These include Dr Hang S Ngor, who won and Oscar for the Killing Fields, Take Mok, a leading member of the Khmer Rouge, as well as professional footballer Khim Borey.

The province is also home to one of the top teams in the Cambodian Premier League, namely Kirivong Sok Sen Chey.
