Siem Reap Gears Up for Two Major Events in September!

This September, Siem Reap is set to host two highly-anticipated events that promise to draw in a wave of international visitors, showcasing the beauty and cultural richness of Cambodia while supporting the town’s tourism recovery.

From September 21 to 23, visitors can witness one of nature’s most awe-inspiring phenomena at Angkor Wat’s Equinox. During this period, the sun aligns perfectly over the temple’s central tower at sunrise, creating a breathtaking sight that draws photographers and tourists alike. This annual event not only highlights the architectural marvel of Angkor Wat but also connects visitors with the deep historical and spiritual significance of the site.

According to Thourn Sinan, Chairman of IMCT Co Ltd and the Pacific Asia Travel Association Cambodia chapter, the Equinox is “a fascinating event that enhances the visitor experience by tying in with the cultural and historical significance of Angkor Wat.” As one of Cambodia’s most iconic landmarks, the Equinox at Angkor Wat offers a unique opportunity for travelers to immerse themselves in the majestic beauty of the ancient temple.

On September 27, Siem Reap will celebrate World Tourism Day 2024, under the theme “Tourism and Peace.” This global event emphasizes the positive role that tourism plays in fostering peace and cross-cultural understanding. It serves as a reminder of the power of travel to bridge divides and create meaningful connections between people from all walks of life.

Sinan emphasized the importance of such events in promoting cultural engagement and raising awareness of Cambodia’s heritage. “By organizing diverse and appealing events, the Ministry of Tourism is not only attracting tourists but also promoting deeper connections with the country’s rich history and culture,” he noted.

Local vendors are equally excited about the upcoming events. Veng Chomreaun, a souvenir vendor in Siem Reap, expressed his optimism: “These events give us a chance to promote and sell our products. Even though the Equinox takes place at Angkor, many visitors will return to Siem Reap city, which helps local businesses and tourism services.”

As Siem Reap prepares for these exciting events, the town is ready to welcome travelers from across the globe, offering them unforgettable experiences that blend natural wonders with cultural heritage. Whether it’s watching the sun rise over Angkor Wat during the Equinox or celebrating the global message of peace on World Tourism Day, Siem Reap is set to shine as a must-visit destination this September.
