Siem Reap Gears Up for Spectacular Khmer New Year Celebrations
After meticulous planning, Siem Reap is all set to host the “Siem Reap Sankranta,” presenting an array of activities and events designed to engage both locals and tourists, promising an unforgettable start to the New Year.
Scheduled from April 12 to April 16, 2024, the Siem Reap Sankranta embodies Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage, offering a splendid showcase of tradition, entertainment, and community unity. The festivities kick off with a Prayer Ceremony for Happiness, followed by a delightful Food Exhibition continuing through April 14. For those seeking a more serene experience, leisure boat rides along the river offer picturesque vistas of the city, while the Public Street Zones provide vibrant entertainment options.
On April 13, the official inauguration brings to life the Cultural Heritage Village and the Khmer Heritage Kite Exhibition, complemented by games and leisure boating activities, evoking the nostalgic charm of Khmer traditions.
April 14 invites participants to indulge in cultural pursuits, kite exhibitions, and the enchanting “Movies Screening under the Starlight,” blending tradition with contemporary relaxation.

April 15 offers a packed schedule of activities, including the Siem Reap Sankranta Golf Tournament, various games and entertainment options, culminating in a concert and the poignant “Floating Lanterns and Prayers for Happiness” event, symbolizing hope and solidarity.
The festivities culminate on April 16 with ongoing entertainment, folk games, and eagerly anticipated traditional Khmer folk dance performances and hand drum music, bringing the New Year celebrations to a splendid close.
