PlanB Returns to Cambodia for their Paint It Black Tour This November

Australia’s international rock ‘n’ soul band, PlanB, is set to return to Cambodia this November for the sixth time, bringing their energetic and soulful performances to fans across the country as part of the band’s Paint It Black Tour 2024.

Bass player/manager Sneaky Pete, who has a long-standing connection with Cambodia, spoke to us about his excitement for the upcoming tour. “My fascination with this beautiful country has never diminished,” Sneaky Pete shared. His connection to Cambodia began during his time working at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok when he first became captivated by the Kingdom’s “mystique, its people, its food, [and] the countryside.”

Since then, Pete’s ties to Cambodia have only deepened. “I had the opportunity to perform in Phnom Penh with the Mekong Delta Band many years later, while living in Ho Chi Minh City,” he said. His passion for Cambodia continued to grow, and when PlanB reformed in 2009, Pete made it his mission to bring his love for the country to his fellow bandmates.

“PlanB will be returning to Cambodia for the sixth time in November 2024,” Sneaky Pete confirmed, describing their performances as a “full-on sensory experience,” with eight musicians on stage, including a ‘smoking’ three-piece horn section. The band has built a loyal fan base in Cambodia, the country with the largest followers on their Facebook page. Pete explained, “I have no doubt that PlanB will continue to return to Cambodia as many band members regard it as a second home.”

A personal connection

Their connection to the country extends beyond just music. On their last visit in early 2020, just before the pandemic hit, PlanB played in Phnom Penh, Battambang, and Siem Reap, raising money for the Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC). The band also performed at a special fundraising event at Cambo Beach Club in Siem Reap, collaborating with local musicians to support the cause.

Recalling the experience, Pete said, “A highlight of that tour was the opportunity for several band members to visit AHC, meet some of the children receiving treatment, and see the incredible work the hospital is doing. It was a very special moment for us.” Footage from that visit even made it into the band’s music video for ‘Anything At All.’

Now, with the world opening up again, PlanB is eager to reconnect with their Cambodian fans. The Cambodian leg of the tour kicks off on November 21st, and Pete is encouraging everyone to come out and join in the fun. “We’re looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. Come say hi, dance with us, and let’s make this tour one to remember!”
