Phnom Penh Weekend Roundup
After the first weekend of being “officially” open, what did we learn from the weekend’s events? Here’s the Khmer Nights weekend roundup.
There was a lot of things to do!
There were some truly great events running throughout the weekend, from jazz, to a Sunday Reggae party and for the most all, or at least the ones we checked out were pretty busy. People are ready to party.
The Phnom Penh comedy scene is back!
A few of the Khmer Nights team went to Box Office to watch Comedy in Cambodia’s first live event in quite some time. Local king of comedy Sam Thomas was the MC and in total there were 5 comedians, a few of whom were doing their first ever gig. Obviously some were better than others, but overall it was extremely good, and perfectly hosted and catered by the fine people at Box Office.
You can read our Q and A with Sam Thomas here.
Live Music is back in Phnom Penh
Live music is back and it is not just for the weekends, with places such as Oscars On the Corner, Botanico, and the aforementioned Box Office offering mid-week gigs.
You can read Andrew Holm’s review of the music scene here.
French Tacos are a thing!
OK, so not exactly related to the weekend, but it was at the weekend that Khmer Nights discovered this culinary treat. We won’t spoil the surprise too much, but the “French Taco” is not really a taco, but it is really good.

Phnom Penh Weekend Roundup – What else did we learn?
As per the previous announcement on the “new normal” you are now required to show your proof of vaccination to enter entertainment venues. This was not only firmly being implemented in most venues, but the police were very much out in force making sure that this happened.
Thankfully a photo of the card was enough to suffice at many places. So, while things are undoubtedly getting better, rules are still very much in force.
Got a gig you want to promote?
Every weekend we will be putting together a list of events coming up throughout the week, so if yo have a gig you would like us to post about, then get in touch by e-mail , or via Facebook.
