Nightclubs, KTV’s and Massage parlours re-open, providing patrons with a belated happy ending

After announcing that high-risk businesses would remain banned until the 6th December, the local government has reversed that decision. As of today the choice to embrace whatever risk these places pose is purely a case of “buyer beware”.

What exactly was announced?

Basically clubs, KTV’s and massage parlors may open so long as they station a member of staff outside to check that customers have been vaccinated.

Establishments will also have to abide by the “3 do’s and 3 don’t’s”, as well as follow all current guidelines from various ministries regarding health and safety as part of the “new normal”.

So the party starts now?

The ordinance stated things could get underway from today (November 30th), but most nightclubs and KTV’s had already planned to start soft-openings as of December 1st. A number of popular nightclubs have arranged events for the weekend of the 3rd and 4th, including the legendary Club Love.

The about turn has surprised many as fear over the new Omicron Covid-19 variant has raised more than a few cases of the jitters.

And yes, Phnom Penh massage parlors are open

The embattled massage industry has indeed finally been given a break, with parlours in the capital finally being allowed to legally re-open. The long stretch of “rubbis interruptus” is now officially concluded, complete with a “happy ending”.
