New Bus Service Bridges Cambodia and Laos: A Boost for Regional Tourism & Connectivity

A new bus service connecting Cambodia and Laos is set to enhance tourism between the two neighboring countries, offering travelers a convenient and scenic alternative to air travel. This service is expected to draw more Laotians to Cambodia, significantly bolstering the Kingdom’s tourism sector.

In a recent agreement between VET Air Bus Express and Sengchalern Transport Co., Ltd., both companies have committed to strengthening tourism connectivity between Cambodia and Laos. The new bus routes will allow travelers to journey from Phnom Penh or Siem Reap to Champasak Province, providing a modern and comfortable travel option.

Yoy Vibol, General Manager at VET Air Bus Express, expressed optimism about the new service, stating, “I hope the number of Cambodians who visit Laos will increase. Previously, there were not many convenient modern bus services, but now companies are working closely to offer customers smiles and safety.”

Sengchalern Transport Co., Ltd., echoed this sentiment on its official page, thanking the management teams and the Vice Governor of Champasak Province for their support, particularly for hosting Cambodian visitors at the beautiful Phan Waterfall in Champasak.

The bus service is scheduled to commence on September 1, 2024. Tob Sopheak, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism, welcomed the initiative, highlighting the growing number of Laotian visitors to Cambodia. In the first six months of 2024, Cambodia received 188,373 visitors from Laos, a notable increase from 140,373 during the same period in 2023.

This development comes after Lao Airlines announced in mid-June 2024 that it would cease direct flights between Vientiane and Phnom Penh due to low travel demand, a decision influenced by challenging market conditions. The cancellation of direct flights marks the end of a service that had operated since the 1980s, with interruptions occurring periodically due to market fluctuations.
