The Culinary Charm of La Kitchen: Langka Lane

Another luscious Langka Lane treat has appeared in the new hotspot that just keeps on giving in Phnom Penh’s hospitality arena. Naturally, Cambodia Lifestyle was straight there to interview the founder and take some pictures of their MOUTHWATERING selection of classic and innovative dishes.

Speaking on his vision, Sarat Lao – the founder of La Kitchen – said that it goes beyond just serving food. “I started this venture with the original idea of providing all that I’ve learned from my culinary school as a chef at École d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme Paul Dubrule, and from what I’ve created and experienced over all these years to this little soul ‘La Kitchen’.”

“Our dream is to be a part of the journey and life experiences of all people who live here in Cambodia or even tourists and that we welcome and serve our dishes with love.”

The restaurant aims to create a home-like atmosphere, where guests feel no pressure and can enjoy a sense of belonging. “I could freely create a place like home no pressure for everyone to walking in,” says Sarat. He is delighted that La Kitchen has become a small community hub where people can connect.

Indeed, while La Kitchen has been operational for two months, the impact is already being felt!

Unique and Creative Dining

“The best thing about La Kitchen is our commitment to a place where everybody has a good time, chilling, sharing and the best place for a unique and creative meal and drinks on the table,” Sarat explains. La Kitchen strives to bring Khmer cuisine to the world while offering meals that are both affordable and high-quality. “We fill the gap between unaffordable to affordable. Because I want everybody to experience one in lifetime to eat a good meal it’s called fancy meals,” he says. Using fresh and high-quality ingredients, La Kitchen ensures that every dish is crafted with care.

La Kitchen’s mission extends beyond providing delicious meals. Sarat highlights, “La Kitchen benefits the community by providing acknowledgment about food, helping local business, and building local community and economy.” By supporting local businesses and promoting food knowledge, La Kitchen plays a vital role in boosting the local economy.

Celebrating Cambodian Culture

Sarat’s love for Cambodia is evident in everything he does. “My favorite thing about Cambodia is culture, lifestyle, history, those make me proud to be a Cambodian or Khmer,” he shares.

His challenging upbringing and desire to make a difference drive his passion for hospitality. “Since the beginning of life when I was born, I barely had a proper meal, because we were so poor and broke. We don’t even have a proper shelter to sleep,” he reflects. These experiences have shaped his mission to ensure that others understand the importance of food and to reduce food waste.
