Get Creative in the Capital! Khraft Arts & Crafts Store

Keeping the creative juices flowing in Toul Tom Poung is Khraft Arts & Crafts Store, a haven for creativity enthusiasts in Cambodia’s capital. Co-owned by Helen and her husband Jake, this family-run store has become a beloved destination for locals, expats, and tourists seeking to explore their artistic side. With two young boys proudly calling it “their” store, Khraft is as much a family story as it is a business success.

Khraft was born from Helen and Jake’s shared passion for arts and crafts and a desire to bring creative opportunities to the community.

“At Khraft, we believe everyone can be creative. We want to help you explore and discover the joy of painting, crochet, candle making, journaling, or whatever creativity looks like to you by providing the tools and materials you need.”

“Our first store was very experimental. We started out with a small selection of products and it grew organically through customer requests. Our current store offers art supplies, craft supplies, sewing and needle art supplies, stationery, kids’ games and toys, home decor, and party supplies.”

The Heart of Khraft: Celebrating Five Creative Years

This year marks a significant milestone for Khraft as it celebrates its 5th anniversary on May 4.

“We are so excited to celebrate Khraft’s 5th birthday on May 4 with our team, friends and community.”

“It’s a huge milestone to have grown through COVID and move into this huge space so we can exponentially expand our product offering. In addition to retail, Khraft hosts lots of family-friendly events throughout the year to celebrate different occasions. We’ve recently had a blast at our Easter event, and we look forward to celebrating International Children’s Day on June 8 with free craft, games, and prizes!”

Indeed, Khraft stands out not just for its wide range of supplies at affordable prices but also for its dedication to fostering creativity in Phnom Penh. The store aims to reach more local customers, spreading the joy of making and promoting art and craft therapy. Customers are treated like neighbors and friends, with the Khraft team offering personalized recommendations and unparalleled service.

More Than Just a Store: A Commitment to Community and Creativity

Khraft is more than a retail space; it’s a community hub. The recently opened Khraft Studio embodies Helen’s vision of a vibrant creative space where people can participate in workshops, collaborate on projects, or simply experiment with new tools and supplies. The studio offers a variety of classes for all ages, including Toddler Art Playgroup, Crochet Classes, and Candle Making workshops.

“It has been such a privilege to provide a wide range of supplies at affordable prices to fuel creativity in Phnom Penh. We love seeing people trying new art forms and pursuing their creativity. In the recent year, our goal has been to reach more local customers to spread the joy of making and to promote art/craft therapy.”

Located in the Russian Market area, Khraft is part of a thriving community of small businesses. Visitors to the store can also explore the Refill Store by Dai Khmer, Clothesline Resale Boutique, and a cozy café within the same building. Nearby, you’ll find a range of delightful restaurants and shops such as Kinin, Brooklyn, Elia, Curry Pot, Lot 369, and Java, all within walking distance.

A Local Connection

For Helen, Cambodia is more than a business location; it’s home. Having spent seven years in Cambodia during her middle and high school years, she returned in 2018 with her husband to start Khraft.

“My love for arts and crafts paired with Jake’s expertise in business motivated us to start this store,” she says.

“I spent 7 years in Cambodia through middle and high school; this country is my home. When I moved back here with my husband in 2018, we saw that there still wasn’t a hobby store. My love for arts and crafts paired with Jake’s expertise in business motivated us to start one. Our vision is to make creativity more accessible all over Cambodia.”

She added that the couple see all our customers as our neighbors and friends.

“We try to understand each customer’s project and offer helpful product recommendations, even if it means purchasing from another store. We are dedicated to providing the best service around town,” she said.

“Khraft Studio has been a part of my vision from the very beginning and we’re so happy to finally make it a reality this past year. Our goal is to create a vibrant community space where people can come enjoy a creative workshop, make something special with a loved one, or just experiment with all the tools and supplies.”

“We host a variety of workshops for people of all ages, including Toddler Art Playgroup, Crochet Classes for children and adults, Candle Making, and so much more!”

“Inside our building, you can also find the Refill Store by Dai Khmer, Clothesline Resale Boutique, and a small cafe. The Russian Market area has lots of lovely restaurants and small businesses and most are within walking distance. Some of our favorites are Kinin, Brooklyn, Elia, Curry Pot, Lot 369, and Java. We love being in the TTP community,” she added.

Remember, say  Khraft, “You are an artist, you are a maker, you are a creative soul. Let Khraft provide the tools and materials you need to bring your creative visions to life!”
