Illegal Phnom Penh Nightclub shut down in Midnight raid

An illegal Phnom Penh nightclub has been shut down in the latest fight against partygoers ignoring Covid-19 rules, according to a report in the Khmer Times among others.

the secret club was “discovered” in a big condo behind the former X2 Club on the corner of Street 55 in the Daun Penh district. Police raided the condo at just after midnight on July 20th. The building in question has 12 floors and is currently under renovation, with the exception of the 6th floor, which had been turned into party central.

When the police raided the venue it was apparently arranged into 3 main rooms, with over 100 partygoers “intent on having a good time”, the report further added.

How many people were arrested at the illegal Phnom Penh nightclub?

Apparently there were over 100 arrests, with 53 Chinese men, 34 Chinese women, with the sex of the remaining 13, or so arrested not being announced. Khmer Nights therefore cannot conform whether or not the illegal Phnom Penh night club was a sausage fest, or not.

Along with the illegal partygoers police also discovered a high amount of “white powder”, assumed to be cocaine, or speed rather than fairy dust. The Chinese nationals were then transported to the Phnom Penh municipal police building to be processed, although whether they will be deported, or not is still unknown.

Nightclubs and the like are not allowed to open, only restaurants that serve booze, or bars that serve food. Anything that falls into the club category is still very much illegal.
