Home & Lifestyle Expo in Cambodia Leaves a Lasting Impression on Visitors in Phnom Penh
The recently concluded Home & Lifestyle Expo at the Koh Pich Exhibition Center in Phnom Penh turned out to be a resounding success, drawing in a diverse crowd with interests ranging from real estate to lifestyle products, financing, insurance, and cars.
Organized by one of Cambodia’s largest property portals, the two-day event showcased the perfect blend of property options, lifestyle products, and financial services.
The expo featured an array of offerings, making it a one-stop-shop for attendees looking for big discounts on boreys, condos, and villas from some of the leading developers in the Kingdom. With over $30 million worth of property sold at Realestate.com.kh events in 2022, this year’s expo saw the participation of around 50 property developers and 50 property-related businesses, including prominent names in banking, insurance, and lifestyle brands.
Tom O’Sullivan, CEO of Realestate.com.kh, highlighted the evolution of the expo, saying, “We’ve been doing expos since 2017 and we didn’t do anything during Covid, obviously. Last year, we did an event in July, which was very successful, but it was 100 percent focused on property. What we wanted to do differently for this event is that we added the word lifestyle.”
The inclusion of lifestyle elements, such as top-notch furniture brands, food & beverage options, and a dedicated kids section, aimed to cater to a wider audience. O’Sullivan explained the strategic decision, stating, “If someone’s in the market for a car, they are obviously middle to upper class. They can afford a property and a car, so they complement each other very well.”
Despite initial concerns about the market’s response, O’Sullivan expressed his satisfaction with the turnout, stating, “We’ve got projects that are reasonably priced from reputed developers.”
This year’s expo introduced a resale corner, showcasing properties sold under market value. O’Sullivan attributed the oversupply in the market to poor quality developers selling at unreasonable prices pre-Covid. He noted, “The market is more educated, and the customers understand what is a good property and a bad property.”
Looking ahead, O’Sullivan revealed plans for more events throughout the year, though they may not be on the same large scale as the expo. He shared insights into the real estate market, stating, “Parts of the market are doing well, and there’s a lot of under market value property. Cash buyers are looking to buy properties under market value.”
Ty Chea, Head of Sales at ULS, echoed the positive sentiment, emphasizing the expo’s impact on exposure and education. “When you’re in front of an audience, you have the opportunity to talk about the product and your visions and also share a bit about the companies, projects, etc. From an educational perspective, I think it’s very good exposure.”
In assessing current market trends, Chea acknowledged the challenges but highlighted the resilience of high-end development projects due to low supply. He noted, “The high-end development projects are doing relatively well due to the fact that the supply factor is quite low. There is a lot of availability at the low end and mid-range.”
As the Home & Lifestyle Expo wraps up, it leaves behind a positive impact on both exhibitors and attendees, showcasing the dynamism and resilience of Cambodia’s real estate and lifestyle sectors.
