Fourth Cannes in Phnom Penh Festival Launches to Showcase Global Cinema

The fourth edition of the Cannes in Phnom Penh film festival has officially kicked off, bringing a curated selection of films from the prestigious Cannes Film Festival to Cambodia’s capital. Running until May 26, the festival features over 20 films from the official Cannes selection, alongside a series of award-winning masterpieces, screened at various cinemas and venues across Phnom Penh.

A Celebration of Cinema

The festival launched on May 15 at the Institut français du Cambodge (IFC) with the screening of ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ by Justin Triet. This award-winning film tells the gripping story of Sandra, Samuel, and their visually impaired son Daniel, who have been living in a remote mountain location. When Samuel is found dead under suspicious circumstances, Sandra is indicted, leading to a trial that scrutinizes the intricacies of their relationship and questions whether Samuel’s death was a suicide or homicide.

In addition to this compelling opener, the festival lineup includes films such as Rithy Panh’s latest work, ‘Rendezvous Avec Pol Pot’, and his earlier film ‘Rice People’. The festival also features a selection of Japanese films that have been recognized at Cannes, offering a diverse array of cinematic experiences.
