First TRIBE Hotel set to hit Phnom Penh next month

The trendy and modern TRIBE hotel group is set up open its first Cambodia branch in Phnom Penh, namely the TRIBE Phnom Penh Post Office Square. Slated for a late May start Khmer Nights went to have a looksee at what all the fuss was about.

What the TRIBE?

The TRIBE Hotel group were initially born in Australia in 2017 wit the ethos of being environmentally friendly, affordable and with a setup tailored to the modern traveler, particularly the digital nomad.

Well the idea went gangbusters and now the chain, which is owned by global behemoth ACCOR have set their sights on global domination, with branches in most major European capitals and now a tilt towards South-East Asia and the whole Bamboo trail.

Phnom Penh was initially supposed to be their first branch opened in Asia, a title since taken by the Bali location, which was currently in its “beta” stage according to a company representative, although also doing quite well.

Khmer Nights are hoping to see some Bali action next month.

What makes TRIBE Phnom Penh so special?

Well as it is not yet open not all that much, but that is all about to change according to  General-Manager Roxanna Gheorghe with here stating she wanted it become a “hub within the capital and not just for tourists”.

And so far the credentials look very good, with there being space for a number of independent restaurants on the ground floor, a fine riverside location, a large co-working area and what might become a legendary sky-bar and restaurant.

The sky bar which will be known as Hemisphere will also have a tip-top restaurant offering international and Khmer classics and is certainly not just aimed a tourists with Roxanna adding “We want our rooftop bar to be popular with locals as well as guests and feel it will be positive new entry to the Phnom Penh rooftop scene”

And the same can be said about their co-working space which is again open to the public, with a company statement adding ” All digital nomads are welcomed to TRIBE’s flexible co-working space in the heart of Phnom Penh. A place where people come to live, not just to work, that empowers them to unfold and connect with a community of like-minded people. A spot open to everyone, TRIBE will provide the ideal territory to create opportunities, get connected and be an entrepreneur.”

Quite the lofty statement and definitely some competition for Factory.

The company are also connected to Khmer Night’s favourite hotel people at Shinta Mani and Bill Bensley, meaning a potential stop off on route from the Shinta Mani Wild en-route to their resort in Siem Reap

And TRIBE Phnom Penh is pretty affordable

As well as literally having everything a customer should desire on-site, they are also very affordable in real terms placing their rooms between the $100-200 bracket, or firmly in the high end of the 4 star category.

And as Roxanna put it they were not going after the same customers as say the Sofitel. New hotel openings are nothing new in Phnom Penh, but the TRIBE vibe does genuinely seem to be rather different and exciting.

I for one am certainly looking forward to my first staycation there – ideally at the end of May, but deadlines like opinions can and do change.
