Phnom Penh Crown FC 3 Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC 1. Phnom Penh Crown were to prove victorious in this home encounter against their visitors from Takeo, but it the end it was a hard fought victory against the plucky underdogs.

First Half Phnom Penh Crown FC 0 Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC 0

Phnom Peng Crown entered this second round match as favorites, having finished top during the first stage. Kirivong FC on the other hand had only scrapped in on goal difference in 8th place, narrowly pushing Asia Euro United into the relegation playoffs.

Despite this the visitors came out fighting and for many periods of the first half were the better team, Chances were to go both ways, but alas neither team were able to find the net.  The yellow card for Cambodian international forward Brak Thiva just before half-time being the only real matter of contention going into the break.

While both teams came out fighting, Kirivong Sok Sen Chey seemed somewhat tired after their initial efforts, leading to previously booked Brak Thiva putting the hosts in the lead with a well taken goal on the 52nd minute. The lead was then doubled on the 62 minute when Crown winger Pov Ponvuthy, arguably the man of the match slotted him easily from an attack from the right-wing.

The game though was far from over and after a fine Kirivong Sok Sen Chey counter-attack star Brazilian forward Osmar found himself one on one with the home keeper before passing to substitute Nin Dav, who slotted the ball into the empty net.

Alas any hoped of a revival were put to bed with Brak Thiva scoring his second of the match, thus putting out any fire left in Kirivong Sok Sen Chey.

Phnom Penh Crown FC 3 Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC 1 – What does it mean?

Despite their weekend loss to Svay Rieng Phnom Penh Crown move to the top of the bale, 3 points ahead of Visakha, who have a game in hand. Kirivong Sok Sen Chey FC remain in 8th place, 18 points off of the top and with no realistic shot at the title.

Smart RSN Stadium

Alongside the Prince Stadium probably the best I have visited in Phnom Penh. There are numerous training pitches outside, a digital scoreboard, and the all hallowed club shop!

The capacity of the Smart RSN Stadium is officially 5,000, 2,000 less than the Prince Stadium, but with all sides of the pitch covered. The club shop is extremely good, having both the new kit, as well as cheaper older versions. There are also replicas of the trophies that the club has won, as well as a commemorative “10 year anniversary” gift box when you make a purchase. Quite a strange thing when you come from a country where few clubs are less than 100 years old. I  literally have shirts and dare I say underwear older than Phnom Penh Crown FC!
