End Of Year Review 2023
We’ve compiled an end of year report for all 15 clubs across the two divisions of Cambodia.
The report covers from January – December 2023 and each club is given a class ranking from 1- Top of the class to 15- bottom of class.
The ‘B’ teams of CPL clubs currently playing in CL2 are assessed together.
Our panel of experts have taken into consideration on field performance, likeability, social media influence and all round club persona as we move into a new era of Cambodian football.
#15: Angkor Tiger FC
It’s been a year to forget for the so-called giants of Siem Reap. The League cup campaign saw them finish bottom of their group below Soltilo, a dismal start to the season which has them 9th in the table and nowhere near the ‘title challengers’ they’ve been talking about for years. A high profile media argument between chairman and former head coach Alistair Heath has only added to the year of embarrassing events. Plans for a new stadium have got people excited but if rumors are too be believed, they can’t afford a decent kit man let alone a new stadium.
#14: The National Academy
Their performances on field have been decent and on any given day they can give anyone a good game. The biggest question is what are they actually doing in this class? What’s the point of the national academy?
#13: Boeung Ket
It’s been a year to forget for the former champions of Cambodia as they continue to be inconsistent and unable to mount a serious challenge for anything. On top of that they’ve lost their stadium, Vathanaka can’t stay fit and they keep changing managers.
It’s time for these giants to decide a plan and stick to it.
#12: Siem Reap FC
SRFC continue to go about their work with a quiet dignity and always seem to be progressing both on and off the field. General Manager Blaed Perkins has done amazing work, their own stadium project on the horizon and lots to look forward to in 2024.
#11: Angkor City FC
On paper (on field) they’re the only club without a win and seemingly unable to get a settled staff or playing squad together.
However the rebrand is brilliant, the management hiring has been spot on and their social media presence is pretty solid. You’ll be hard pressed to find someone to say things bad about this club, unless you’re in the Tiger dressing room.
