Cambodia Sets New Standards on Eco-Tourism in Phnom Kulen
A groundbreaking initiative has begun to bolster the management of protected areas and promote eco-tourism within the breathtaking landscapes of Phnom Kulen National Park, Siem Reap province.

Within the park’s sprawling expanse, CSLEP has established two ranger stations, one situated at the enchanting orchid site known as Kesor Kol. Another station, currently under construction, is slated for completion soon, enhancing the park’s capacity for conservation and visitor management.
Moreover, CSLEP is spearheading efforts to gather crucial data on biodiversity and socio-economic aspects, laying the groundwork for informed management strategies and the development of eco-friendly tourism infrastructure.
To facilitate visitor experiences, plans are underway to implement a comprehensive park tour system, bolstered by the installation of signage and essential facilities. This approach aims to strike a balance between conservation and visitor enjoyment while ensuring the sustainable development of tourism in the region.
During a recent media excursion to the park, officials underscored the government’s commitment to sustainable tourism practices, as outlined in the Pentagonal Strategy and the Circular Strategy on Environment 2023-2028. These strategies prioritize the preservation of natural habitats, the promotion of green tourism, and the empowerment of local communities.
Minister of Environment Eang Sophalleth articulated a bold vision to position Phnom Kulen as a premier eco-tourism destination, drawing both domestic and international visitors. His visit to the park earlier this year underscored the untapped potential of the region, from its lush orchid gardens to its cascading waterfalls and ancient monastic sites.

The endorsement of Phnom Kulen as a prime tourism destination by Prime Minister Hun Manet reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable development and conservation. Key initiatives include the strengthening of law enforcement, the enhancement of infrastructure, and the provision of amenities to ensure a memorable and environmentally responsible visitor experience.
