Delights at Trattoria Bello
I recently saw a friend’s post which linked me to Trattoria Bello’s Facebook page. I happened to be craving cheesecake at the time and saw that they had it on their menu.
Hidden on a quiet street in Toul Tompong, I almost missed the small eatery despite just being a few steps away. It was the only shop open on the narrow, dark street.
On entering the shop, I was greeted with enthusiasm and I instantly felt that this dinner was going to make me not just full, but happy and positive! The small Italian restaurant is filled with good, warm vibes.
Trattoria Bello Ambience
Once seated, I was served a cool wet towel which was nice to freshen up from the walk over. It is one of the rare places that go the extra mile like this and it was a pleasant surprise. The owner is Japanese, and the service is definitely above average! Cold water is also served without being asked.
The menu serves a nice selection of pizzas and pastas, freshly cooked and at a very affordable price. I liked it that they have a small 9 inch pizza, as sometimes eating out alone is tough, especially with pizza. I ordered a funghi pizza with my favourite choice of mushrooms and bacon. There is also an ongoing promotion where a coke or iced lime juice is served free with a pizza. I chose the lime juice, which was served with palm sugar, a healthier alternative to processed sugar.
The Phnom Penh Pizza Wars!
The delightful wafts of food cooking in the kitchen increases my anticipation as my hunger builds up. I was definitely not disappointed when my pizza arrived. The thin crust was crisp but not hard. The mushroom, bacon, and cheese melted to a savory combination and I pretty quickly finished up every bit of the pizza! Yum! The freshness of the pizza is definitely something I’ll come back for!

Time for the cheesecake that I’ve been craving. It was served with a scoop of ice cream, corn flakes and blueberry sauce. It was a nice happy ending to my satisfying dinner at Trattoria Bello!
But what really made the whole experience was not just the food. The service, the relaxing ambience, and the attentiveness of the staff all contributed to the experience. I also noticed that they make the effort to be more conscious of the environment by using bamboo straws and serving the dessert spoon in a glass instead of it being wrapped in a tissue. I will definitely be happy to come back here again to try out the pasta next time!
