Jake Sanders, Editor of World Cigar News, led a delegation that included Mr. Da Fai Lam, Director of Mufasa Cigar Lounge; Kevin Sysyn, a musician and founder of the Kids on the Bridge educational charity; and Mr. Surya, Editor-in-Chief of Better Cambodia News. The group engaged in wide-ranging discussions on business opportunities, cultural exchange, and investment potential.
The evening began with introductions and a live performance of John Lennon’s Imagine by Sysyn, setting a reflective and hopeful tone for the conversations. Upcoming events, including the visit of the Cuban National Ballet Troupe and the celebration of Cuban Culture Day on October 20th, were highlighted as key milestones in fostering greater understanding. Additionally, Jake Sanders proposed that the Mufasa Cigar Lounge could serve as a Cuban Culture Center in Phnom Penh. The idea, which would see the lounge hosting Cuban art and cultural events alongside its cigar offerings, received enthusiastic support from both Mr. Lam and the Ambassador.
The conversation also touched on renewable energy initiatives, with discussions about small-scale solar battery storage systems currently being developed in China and Kampot. These systems could present sustainable energy solutions for Cuba in the future.

Strengthening international connections was another theme of the gathering, with Ambassador Zaldívar recording video greetings for the Ambassadors of the Solomon Islands and Grenada, ahead of their planned visit to Cambodia in March. The goal is to exchange ideas on renewable energy, healthcare, and education.

Kevin Sysyn reflected on his charitable work in Cambodia, including the construction of two schools that have provided education to hundreds of children from underprivileged backgrounds. Meanwhile, Mr. Surya introduced the Canberra Investment Fund and highlighted the potential of his media platform, The Better Cambodia, in driving positive change.
The event concluded with a collective commitment to follow up on the proposals and ideas discussed. It was a dynamic exchange of perspectives, laying the groundwork for future partnerships that could further strengthen the cultural and economic bonds between Cambodia and Cuba.
