Projekt Brews: A must for the craft enthusiast in Kampot

Founded in 2019 by Harry and his friend, Projekt Brews began as a small venture to supply their bars with unique, hop-forward ales and heavily fruited sour beers. Using only natural ingredients without preservatives, their craft beers provide a refreshing alternative to the generic lagers commonly found in Cambodia.

Harry said, “We specialise in Hop forward modern ales and heavily fruited sour beers using only natural ingredients with no preservatives. which offers people a break from the mass-produced generic lagers most commonly found here.”

“In 2022 we opened our Taproom Projekt Taps down a small laneway in the center of Kampot next to a nice little boutique coffee shop and one of the best tattoo parlours in the country Black Sheep.”

He said that what he loves about the beer business is the aspect of community within the industry.

“Everyone works together helping each other trying to grow the craft beer scene in Cambodia, collectively holding events such as beer festivals notably the annual Kampot beer festival held at Monkey Republic which is a personal highlight for me.”

Indeed, the community-driven ethos of Projekt Brews shines through in their collaborative events, such as the annual Kampot Beer Festival held at Monkey Republic, and the upcoming Masters of Craft brewing competition in Phnom Penh, sponsored by the Craft Beer Association of Cambodia (CBAC).

Harry said, “I hope people can join on the 25th of this month as we will be having a brewing competition called Masters Of Craft. This will be held at Botanico in Phnom Phen and sponsored by CBAC!”

Speaking about his love for Cambodia, he explained why he has been living here for a decade.

“Kampot is a great little town which I’ve called home now for the last 10 years. It has plenty to see and do from the national parks and pepper plantations to the vibrant bar and restaurant scene there is something for everyone.”

“I love the diversity and mix of cultures with the expats and locals and don’t see myself leaving anytime soon,” he added.
