CCF Launches Charity Cycling Event from Phnom Penh to Battambang to Support HOPE Foundation
Cambodia’s cycling scene is gaining momentum with an exciting new event announced for February 15, 2025. The Cambodian Cycling Federation (CCF) is set to host a charity cycling ride from Phnom Penh to Battambang to raise funds and awareness for the Hope for Cambodian Children Foundation (HOPE).
With a 292km route stretching from the bustling capital to one of Cambodia’s most culturally rich provinces, the event promises to attract cyclists of all skill levels while supporting a vital cause. Nou Chamroeun, secretary-general of the CCF, emphasized the dual purpose of the event: promoting cycling as a sport and raising funds for underprivileged children and families.

“We hope that as many people as possible will attend this event since it will play an important role in assisting the HOPE Foundation, which is in need,” Chamroeun shared in an interview with Khmer Times. “This tournament will also serve to promote the sport and tourism in the province to a wider audience. We hope that following this event, more people will utilise bikes more frequently in their daily lives, which will be helpful to their health and the environment.”
HOPE Foundation: A Lifeline for Battambang’s Vulnerable Communities
Founded to support impoverished children and families in Battambang, the Hope for Cambodian Children Foundation works closely with the Cambodian government and local NGOs to provide essential services in health, social welfare, and education. By empowering families with the tools and knowledge to achieve independence, HOPE aims to break the cycle of poverty.
Funds raised from the cycling event will go directly toward supporting HOPE’s mission. This includes providing medical care, education, and social services to children in need.
How to Get Involved
Cycling enthusiasts interested in participating in the Phnom Penh to Battambang ride are encouraged to register before the February 7 deadline. The event is open to both professional and amateur cyclists, making it an inclusive opportunity for anyone passionate about cycling or philanthropy.
Participants can expect a challenging but rewarding journey through Cambodia’s scenic landscapes, including rice fields, small villages, and bustling markets. Along the way, they will not only promote a healthy lifestyle but also contribute to a meaningful cause.
Building on a Tradition of Charity Rides
This upcoming event follows the success of the CCF’s previous charity ride from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, which took place on June 1, 2024, in honor of International Children’s Day. That event attracted 500 cyclists and raised over $5,000 for the Angkor Hospital for Children in Siem Reap.
Chamroeun noted that the positive feedback from last year’s ride inspired the federation to continue organizing charitable cycling events. The Phnom Penh to Battambang ride is expected to attract a similar turnout, with funds raised through participant registration fees and donations from generous sponsors and philanthropists.
The Growing Popularity of Cycling in Cambodia
Cycling has seen a surge in popularity in Cambodia in recent years. Provinces such as Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Kampong Chhnang have become hubs for cycling enthusiasts. Chamroeun highlighted the health benefits of the sport, noting that it helps reduce stress and promotes overall well-being.

“The federation will continue to work hard to increase the sport’s appeal beyond what it is today,” he said. “However, I would like to request financial assistance from the private sector.”
The CCF aims to expand cycling’s reach by organizing more events and fostering a culture of cycling across the country. With each event, the federation hopes to encourage more people to adopt cycling as a part of their everyday routine—benefiting both their health and the environment.
Looking Ahead: Phnom Penh to Siem Reap Charity Ride
Following the Phnom Penh to Battambang charity event in February, the CCF plans to host another ride from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap on June 1, 2025, to coincide with International Children’s Day. The goal remains the same: to raise funds for children’s charities, this time for the Angkor Hospital for Children.
“This is the second time we have held the Phnom Penh to Siem Reap charitable cycling ride, with the first taking place last year,” Chamroeun said. “We hope people continue to support this noble cause for Cambodian children.”
With the growing popularity of cycling and a focus on meaningful causes, Cambodia’s cycling events are becoming more than just sporting competitions. They are platforms for community building, philanthropy, and promoting a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.
So, whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or someone looking for a new challenge, February’s Phnom Penh to Battambang charity ride offers a chance to explore Cambodia’s beautiful landscapes while making a lasting impact on the lives of children in need.
