Cambodian football stadiums are to reopen – What are the restrictions?

CNCC have stated that from today (November 1st) spectators will be able to attend matches in the C-League, the top level of soccer within the country, as well as the Hun Sen Cup, the national knock-out competition analogous to England’s FA Cup.

Stadiums will though be restricted to 50 percent of their normal capacity, with fans still needing to practice social distancing, as well as government mandates, such as the wearing of masks.

As per all entrainment venues in the “new normal”, spectators will also need to show proof of vaccination in order to enter stadiums.

This will be the first time fans have been allowed back into grounds since March, with all matches since then being played in behind closed doors.

What’s been happening in Cambodia Football?

Despite the lack of fans and frequent suspensions of matches due to Covid-19, it has actually been a pretty exciting season so far, with us now being in the championship and relegation play-off round of the Metfone Cambodian League.

Phnom Peng Crown currently lead the table, five points in front of favorites Viaskha FC who have a game in hand.

At the bottom end of the table sit sorry Soltilo Angkor FC of Siem Reap, five points adrift of safety and seemingly needing a miracle if they are to avoid the drop.

And then there’s Hun Sen Cup! With the regional rounds now finished the qualifiers will now get a chance to face the best of Cambodian football, and who knows maybe even produce the odd “giant killing”.

If you’ve yet to watch football in Cambodia, now would be a great time to try it out.
