Cambodia voted friendliest country in the world – again
In news that will not shock residents of the Kingdom, Cambodia was voted friendliest country on the world, again. This is according to the popular travel site RoughGuides. The news will no doubt once again fire up the rivalry between neighbors Cambodia and Thailand.
Rough Guides conducted its poll via its Facebook and Twitter channels, asking the simple question “What country do you think is the friendliest in the world”? And the results were varied with (almost) everywhere from Albania to Zimbabwe getting a vote.
Second friendliest country in the world award
This is the second time that Cambodia has won friendliest country in the world, having previously picked up the award from My International Movers back in 2020.
In 2021 it came 4th in a list compiled by InterNations, which put it first in Asia. The group also named the country 1st with regards to “the friendliest attitudes towards foreign residents”. It gained this after 96 percent of respondents rated the levels of intimacy and friendly attitudes as “positive”.
This was opposed to the global average of just 70 percent, meaning of course that some nations – wea are looking at you Russia scoring even less.
Thai media slams results
And while you might expect Cambodia’s neighbors to cheerfully slap them on the back, salty with regards to Thailand quite the opposite has been the case.
Wen we initially reported this story back in 2021 for Khmer Nights not only was it picked up by Thai media, but it was also slammed with media, as well as netizens, without irony angrily stating they were “the friendliest country in the world (or at least Asia)”.
Global netizens it would appear though do not agree with Thailand, with the friendly people, as well as the ease of living in Cambodia as an expat no doubt helping the Kingdom beat its local rivals.
