Cambodia one of the 10 coolest places to go in the next 10 years? Sure, kind of.

According to the quintessential travel experts at Forbes, Cambodia is one of the 10 coolest places to go in the next 10 years. Why 10 years? One can only assume that will be when not the pandemic is over, but the roads in Siem Reap have also finally been fixed.

The Forbes article seems to consist of one chap’s opinion after his talking to “travel experts”, but is essentially his own musing. So the “win” is not a poll result like when Cambodia was voted the friendliest country on earth.

What position did Cambodia come and why?

Whilst not listed in a numbered fashion, Cambodia was placed second on the list as it was laid out. There is a caveat to that though. In fact what it listed alongside Thailand, which astute readers will realise are in fact two different countries.

As for why you should visit within the next ten years, the main reasoning was that while both were places were “nice”, because of the pandemic destinations like Angkor Wat would have less crowded as fewer poeple would be visiting. The article further added that the listing would “help with their growth”. So was Cambodia’s inclusion more an act of charity than an actual win? Who knows.

10 coolest places to go in the next 10 years – Who else made the list?

Seeing as Cambodia and Thailand only rate a single “joint” entry you’d expect the competition to be pretty fierce right? Well…not so much. In fact other nation states made the list, save Mexico, Costa Rica and Grenada, all indeed nice places.

Slightly more surprising entrants included Cashel In Ireland, as well Bend, Oregon which scooped the top spot. Apparently Bend is to Oregon, in many ways, what Aspen is to Colorado”, a declaration that might mean something to people who know about Aspen, but not much to virtually everyone else.

So while it is always nice to get a bit of travel recognition, probably best to take this latest Cambodian honour with a pinch of salt.
