Angkor Wat Tops Most Photogenic UNESCO World Heritage Site List!

In a recent survey conducted by Times Travel, Cambodia’s iconic Angkor Wat has been named the most photogenic UNESCO World Heritage Site in Asia. The ancient temple complex outranked some of the most breathtaking cultural landmarks in the region, including India’s Taj Mahal, China’s Great Wall, Myanmar’s Bagan, Indonesia’s Borobudur, Vietnam’s Halong Bay, Kyoto’s Historic Monuments in Japan, Jordan’s Petra, the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras, and India’s Hampi.

Times Travel highlighted that these Asian heritage sites are not only cultural treasures but also visual wonders, each offering photographers a wealth of inspiration with their stunning architecture, rich histories, and captivating landscapes. For those passionate about capturing the perfect shot, Angkor Wat stands as a shining beacon of beauty and history.

Angkor Wat, the crown jewel of Cambodia’s Angkor Archaeological Park, is one of 91 ancient temples built between the 9th and 13th centuries. The park, which spans 401 square kilometers in Siem Reap province, has long been the country’s most popular tourist destination. This year has been no exception, with Angkor Archaeological Park attracting 651,857 international visitors in the first eight months, a 30.7% year-on-year increase, according to Angkor Enterprise.

The increase in tourism has also boosted revenue, with ticket sales for the park generating $30.3 million from January to August 2024, reflecting a 31% increase compared to the same period last year.

The news of Angkor Wat’s top ranking was shared by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet on his official Telegram channel, where he proudly posted the Times Travel list of Asia’s 10 most photogenic UNESCO World Heritage Sites. As the temple continues to draw global attention, this latest accolade reinforces its status as a must-visit destination for travelers and photographers alike.
