Tbuoung Khmum FC 2 Phnom Penh Galaxy 0! They will certainly be dancing in the streets of Tbuoung Khmum tonight after this exciting victory. Does it get much bigger than the regional quarter-finals of the 2021 Hun Sen Cup?

What is the Hun Sen Cup?
The Hun Sen Cup is the major knock-out competition for Cambodian Football, similar to the FA Cup in England. It also doubles up as the C-League 2. The early rounds therefore feature mostly amateur clubs from throughout Cambodia, with the victorious teams not only getting the chance to play against the big boys like Visakha, but also potentially gain promotion to C-League 1 – the top tier of football within the Kingdom.

The match was played at the AEU Sport Park, home to Asia Euro United of the top division. Phnom Penh Galaxy were apparently favorites to win the match – at least according to the BTV guy that decided to talk to us, but the form book was seemingly thrown out of the window for this affair.
Despite being the underdogs Tbuoung Khmum FC came out fighting and after a superb shot hit and bounced off of the inside of the post, captain, star player and man of the match Min Set Sen pounced to make the game 1-0. The dominance would continue into the second half, with number 14 Ker Fin slotting home easily just under 10 minutes after the restart. The early fast and exciting pace died out in the last 30 minutes, or so, but there was still enough passion to see four yellow cards handed out.
Regional football in Cambodia – what’s it like?
While not exactly the EPL the later rounds of the cup feature the best of the regional sides and overall Tbuoung Khmum FC were fairly impressive, Phnom Penh Galaxy less so….
If you come to watch regional matches with realistic expectations then it is certainly a decent day out.
Tbuoung Khmum FC 2 Phnom Penh Galaxy 0 – What does it mean?
Tbuoung Khmum FC are now through to the Hun Sen Cup regional Semi-Finals, where they will play Battambang FC who managed to spank poor Kandal Province FC 7-1 at the ever awful 7NG stadium.
After this things get a little bit more completed, but essentially if they keep winning will end up in the Hun Sen Cup regional final and potentially not only promoted, but also facing one of the bigger teams in the later rounds.
There’s still a lot to play for in the 2021 Hun Sen Cup!
