Phnom Penh Alcohol Ban Extended for 14 days

The Phnom Penh alcohol ban has been extended for another 14 days and will last until September 9th according to reports from local media. Aside from the alcohol ban (sob) other “high risk” activities are also still restricted.

How long will the Phnom Penh Alcohol ban last?

How long will the Phnom Penh alcohol ban last? We honestly have no idea, having hoped and indeed in many cases prayed that it would end yesterday.

Officially the current ban starts at midnight on August 27th and will run until September 9th. This means no drinking in bars, no liquor stores and that Kiwi Mart will have to update their signs. We do not know if they will print more, or simply write over the existing ones. Nobody from Kiwi Mart was available for comment.

No risky business…….

Phnom Penh Alcohol Ban
Phnom Penh Alcohol Ban – no laughing matter..

Aside from the on/off booze ban, other activities not allowed are cinemas, clubs, beer gardens, casinos, gyms and sporting events among others. Poor news for our rugby-loving friends.

Massage parlors, saunas and girly bars are also to remain closed in what can only mean a perfect time to invest in Tinder stock.

Phnom Penh Alcohol Ban Extended – What can we do?

There is no curfew now, so you can stay out as long as you want, although what one would do at 3 am without a brew is anyone’s guess. You can though still meet family members, attend court if you’ve been arrested as well as go to hospital, so that’s nice.

Alternatively, you can still dine in at restaurants, order food online, or perhaps take up a hobby, such as running, or creating your own lifestyle magazine. There really is no end to the potential that a clear head from alcohol brings…..

As always we will keep our fingers on the pulse for when legal drinking again is allowed in the most vaccinated capital in the world.
