InterNations Phnom Penh is returning on Friday, September 4, bringing the capital’s international community together for an evening of networking, contemporary art, drinks and prizes at Plantation Urban Resort & Spa.
Running from 6:30pm to 9pm, the event marks the return of the popular networking series hosted by Tom Starkey, with a format designed to sit somewhere between formal business networking and Phnom Penh’s more casual social scene.
Previous InterNations events in the capital have attracted an international mix of business leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, freelancers and creatives, combining professional connections with a deliberately relaxed atmosphere.
“I’m genuinely excited to bring InterNations back. We always tried to create something that sat nicely in the middle — not blazers and business cards, but not backpackers and beer towers either,” Starkey said.
“Phnom Penh has an incredible mix of people doing interesting things, and InterNations works when you put those people in a great venue, make it relaxed and give them a reason to actually talk to each other. After the break, I’m really looking forward to getting that community back together.”
Art, Canapés and the Return of the Lucky Draw
The September comeback will also introduce an artistic element to the evening, with guests able to experience the current exhibition by Cambodia-based contemporary artist Lena Kinza at Plantation.
Curated artist talks will take place during the event, while canapés are included with all tickets.
The popular InterNations Lucky Draw will also return at around 8pm, continuing a feature that became a staple of previous Phnom Penh events. Earlier editions have featured prizes contributed by local businesses ranging from hotel stays and dining experiences to lifestyle products and services.
Organisers say the full prize list is deliberately being kept under wraps for now, with new prizes, collaborations and special additions to the event set to be revealed in the run-up to September 4.
“We’re not announcing everything at once,” Starkey added. “Part of the fun with InterNations was always seeing what we could add to each event. We’ve already got some great things planned, and we’ll be revealing the prizes and a few other surprises over the next couple of weeks.”
Two Ticket Options
General entry is priced at US$12.50, including canapés and a choice of soft drink, beer or spirit and mixer.
A US$25 free-flow option includes 2.5 hours of canapés, soft drinks, draft beer and spirits and mixers, including G&Ts.
Both options include access to the contemporary art programme, curated artist talks and entry into the lucky draw. This event is sponsored by ISEA.
InterNations describes itself as a global expatriate network with communities around the world, while its Phnom Penh community currently numbers more than 12,000 members on the website, and 1,300+ on telegram.
The returning event will continue the Phnom Penh format of bringing together the international and local professional community without making the evening feel like traditional corporate networking.
