Siem Reap celebrated a three-day Solidarity Flower Festival from June 28th to 30th to raise funds for the construction of a 108-meter-high Buddha statue on Bokor Mountain.
The project to build the 108-meter-high Buddha statue on the ridge of Bokor Mountain in Kampot Province was set to become the largest and tallest statue in Cambodia and among the tallest Buddha statues in the world. This statue was envisioned not only as a significant shrine for Buddhists but also as a major tourist destination, expected to draw visitors from around the globe.
The Great Solidarity Flower Festival, held at the Sokha Siem Reap Hotel, brought together people from all walks of life to contribute to this monumental project. The event was marked by the participation of monks, Neak Oknha, Oknha, dignitaries, and Buddhists, who gathered to offer their support and make merit according to their generosity.

The Buddha statue, which was inaugurated in January 2023, is expected to take approximately four years to complete. Once finished, it will cover over 90 hectares on the ridge of Bokor Mountain. The base of the statue will be 248 meters long and 186 meters wide, featuring four large staircases with dragon handrails, symbolizing the four major directions, inspired by the architectural style of Angkor Wat during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the 12th century.
This statue is not only a symbol of religious devotion but also a beacon for tourism in Cambodia. It promises to add to the country’s rich tapestry of cultural and spiritual attractions, offering visitors more to see and experience. By maintaining and celebrating Cambodia’s traditions and religion, this new landmark will enhance the country’s appeal, providing both spiritual significance and a new reason for travelers to explore the beauty and heritage of Cambodia.
